Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is enjoying his offseason after a great 2018 campaign, along with his wife Tiffany, kids and now their ninth child, which was born last week, Anna Rivers, the team announced on Tuesday.

How Philip Rivers met Tiffany Goodwin

Rivers and Tiffany Goodwin actually knew each other since middle school and started dating in the 7th grade. They decided to get married during Rivers’ first year in college at North Carolina State University. At the time he was 19.

Rivers is a devout Catholic and Tiffany converted to Catholicism before they walked down the aisle in 2001. She gave birth to their first child the following year and their latest edition was born in 2019.

Rivers told Celebrate Life Magazine that Tiffany “loves being a mom. Our family and our marriage are built on our faith–raising our kids in the faith and seeing them grow. We’re very close-knit. We’re homeschooling … Staying true to the teachings of the Church, from the no-contraception standpoint, has really been the biggest blessing in our marriage.”

Their oldest, Halle, was born in 2002. Three years later, the couple welcomed their second daughter, Caroline. Tiffany then gave birth to Grace, who is now 12, followed by the pair’s first son, Gunner, who is 10 years old. In 2010, they had another daughter named Sarah and the following year welcomed their second son, Peter. Rebecca was born in 2013. Then Clare came along in 2015 and their youngest daughter, Anna, was born in March 2019.

Why the family still lives on San Diego

After the Chargers moved from San Diego to Los Angeles in 2017, Rivers and Tiffany looked at several schools in the L.A. and Orange Country area but ultimately decided it was best not to pack up their entire family and move. Today, they still live in San Diego because according to the quarterback, nowhere else felt like home to them.

“Every time we started driving back home. It was like, ‘Gosh!’ We had the feeling of ‘Ohhhh,'” Rivers recalled to The San Diego Tribune. “You look around (when house hunting) and you kind of get excited. You know, ‘That’s a neat neighborhood.’ Then we’d be driving home and we’d get to about Carlsbad and say, ‘Gosh! I feel like we’re going home.’ It just felt that way.”

When he has to get to work, Rivers commutes about 80 miles each way but does it in a $200,000 luxury SUV. He also employed a driver so instead of having to watch the road the entire time he can study film.
